How MNL FW26 turned Thai fandom, regional creators into US$3m fashion marketing engine

Manila Fashion Week (MNL FW26) has used international celebrity casting, regional creators and an inbound media strategy to turn its latest runway event into a cross-border marketing campaign for Filipino fashion.

Held from 3 to 6 September 2026 at the SMX Convention Centre in SM Aura Premiere, MNL FW26 featured 12 designers across nine shows. Its objective was not only to showcase contemporary Filipino design to a domestic audience, but to expand its reach across the region and strengthen Manila's positioning as an Asian fashion destination.

The campaign generated a projected full-cycle earned media value (EMV) of 201.6 million pesos (US$3.2 million), according to MNL FW26's digital mileage report. It also recorded 948,022 engagements, representing a 1,708% increase from the previous year, while its engagement rate improved 32-fold.

At the centre of the campaign was what organisers called the "Thai Effect" - a strategy that used existing Southeast Asian celebrity fandom to extend the runway's reach beyond traditional fashion audiences.

Rather than limiting international celebrities to front-row appearances, MNL FW26 placed them directly into the runway experience. Thai actors Ormsin Supitcha and Folk Sutima, alongside Sonya Saranphat and Lookmhee Punyapat, walked in collections by Filipino designers.

Actors Oat Tharathon and Ngerng Anupart also wore pieces from homegrown labels Randolf and Lorico, while Boss Chaikamon became a major driver of online engagement.

The approach effectively turned the runway into a pop-culture crossover, giving Filipino labels access to the digital communities already following the participating Thai stars. This celebrity-led amplification generated a projected 51.6 million pesos (US$824,000) in EMV.

The campaign then extended its regional strategy through creator seeding, bringing in creators from Vietnam and Indonesia to interpret Filipino fashion for their respective audiences.

Vietnamese creators Bá Tùng 'Tyler' and Nguyen Ngoc Linh Chau, together with Indonesia's Helen Hiuu and Cissy Lia, were brought in to incorporate Filipino aesthetics into their own regional narratives rather than simply reproduce runway coverage. Their participation generated a modeled 7.6 million pesos (US$121,000) in EMV.

MNL FW26 also sought to balance social-media reach with editorial credibility through an inbound press junket involving 10 international fashion media titles.

Among those attending were Harper's Bazaar Indonesia, GQ Hong Kong, GQ Singapore, Grazia Singapore, Elle Malaysia, Esquire Malaysia and L'Officiel.

"Getting noticed is just the start; building credibility is the end goal," said Dan Mejia, founder and CEO of Impact Headquarter. "By bringing together local talent, international stars, and the region's top media, MNL FW isn't just putting on a show. We're laying the groundwork to turn Philippine fashion into a serious economic force."

The campaign was produced by iFace and directed by Saga PH.

Beyond the headline EMV figure, MNL FW26 reported that its designer and partner ecosystem generated 20.2 million pesos (US$323,000) in EMV organically. Its projected media impact value was 50 million pesos (US$799,000), while its attendee base more than doubled from the previous year.

For MNL FW founder John Lozano, the regional strategy represents a shift in how the event views its role in the Philippine fashion ecosystem.

"MNL FW is no longer just a mirror reflecting local talent; it is a bridge connecting Philippine design to the global cultural economy. Uniting our entire creative ecosystem to celebrate a collective win shows the world what we are truly capable of. This season lays the definitive foundation for establishing Manila as a premier fashion destination in Southeast Asia," Lozano said.

With MNL FW26, the runway became one part of a broader communications strategy spanning celebrity fandom, creator communities and international fashion media - designed to move Filipino fashion from a local showcase into a conversation across the region.
