Hongkongers have flocked to local department store Sincere (先施百貨) in Sham Shui Po for last-day bargains as it closed its doors on Sunday (4 January). With the closure of its Sham Shui Po branch, Sincere is now down to two remaining physical stores in Mong Kok and Central, alongside its commerce presence.

At the entrance of the Sham Shui Po store, a banner displayed the notice titled "Parting ways, but memories remain” (聚散終有時), expressing heartfelt gratitude to customers for their support and conveying the sadness of not being able to continue the journey together.

“After 30 wonderful years, countless cherished memories have been created. We were fortunate to have you along the way, lighting up Sincere. While we are unable to continue together, we genuinely feel the loss. Thank you for your support, and we hope to reunite someday,” the notice reads.

The store also displayed a banner stating "Everything must go at up to 90% off due to lease expiration." Even before opening, it attracted many onlookers, with some taking out their phones to capture keepsake photos, according to HK01.

On social media, the announcement of the closure of Sincere's Sham Shui Po store has prompted a number of netizens to express their feelings of sadness on Facebook, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE confirmed. Some said that the store, which opened in 1994, has been a companion to Sham Shui Po residents for 30 years, while others voiced concerns about the future of Hong Kong’s retail landscape.

Founded in 1900, The Sincere Company is one of Hong Kong’s oldest retail groups. The group primarily focuses on retailing high-quality products from around the world, including fashion apparel, shoes, handbags, sports equipment, household items, electrical goods, bedding and bath products, travel accessories, and food merchandise, according to its official website.

In fact, Hong Kong's retail scene has been struggling, with a number of shops closing in recent years. Back in November, the world’s first Monopoly-themed attraction, Monopoly Dreams Hong Kong (香港大富翁夢想世界), closed, marking its final move from The Peak.

Announced on its Instagram and Facebook pages, Monopoly Dreams Hong Kong said that it had concluded its mission after a six-year journey. “It's been a memorable adventure, bringing the iconic board game to life! Let's take one last chance to roll the dice, buy up properties, and create final memories at this beloved attraction,” it said in the farewell message.
