Hong Kong restaurant chain Daniel’s Restaurant's last operating branch in Mei Foo is closing down in late May amid the fierce competition within the food and beverage industry.
This comes after a picture featuring a shut-down notice on the store's entrance went viral online, according to multiple media reports, including HK01, Sing Tao, and the Standard. The last store in Mei Foo will seize operation from 29 May 2025 due to lease expiration, and the restaurant thanked customers and fans for their support over the past 44 years, said the HK01 report.

The announcement has triggered heated discussions online, with many being shocked by the news, a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw on Threads.
On Threads, a netizen posted a photo of the restaurant's dessert menu, reminiscing about his previous visits to the restaurants enjoying the dessert. “Thinking back, when I went there for a meal, I would definitely skip ordering a drink and opt for a dessert instead! Also, the breakfast portions were quite generous.”

The post has received over 110 likes, with some netizens saying they would miss the restaurant, while some said they had anticipated this situation due to the poor food quality.
Originally established as a dessert shop in the 1980s, Daniel’s Restaurant evolved into a beloved Hong Kong-style diner that appealed to a diverse range of palates. At its peak, the brand unveiled 24 stores across Hong Kong and expanded into the retail sector by offering packaged goods under its brand.
