Green SM adds electric motorbikes to Jakarta mobility offering

Green SM has launched its electric motorbike ride-hailing service in Jakarta, marking its first international market and expanding the company's all-electric mobility offering beyond cars.

The service adds two-wheel mobility to Green SM's existing electric taxi operations in Indonesia, with customers able to book rides through the Green SM app. They can choose between standard ride-hailing and the Green Now feature for faster bookings.

The company said the service is designed around customer experience, fleet quality, safety, convenience and transparent pricing, reflecting Jakarta's demand for flexible motorbike-based transport.

Green SM will deploy fully electric motorbikes from Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast, with drivers using the VinFast Evo and Feliz II electric scooters. The company said the vehicles have lower operating costs than petrol-powered motorcycles.

Alongside the customer-facing service, Green SM is introducing flexible rental models for two-wheel drivers. A rent-to-own option starts at IDR 39,000 (US$2.18) per day, with guaranteed earnings of up to IDR 160,000 (US$8.95) per day and an option to own the vehicle after two years.

Drivers can alternatively choose three-, six- or 12-month rental terms, with a deposit of IDR 150,000 (US$8.39). Under the offer, drivers receive guaranteed earnings of IDR 160,000 (US$8.95) per day for their first two months, alongside performance bonuses.

Drivers can also access up to five free battery swaps per day through the V-Green battery-swapping network, which Green SM said is intended to lower operating costs and support driver earnings.

For customers, Green SM is offering introductory discounts from 16 to 22 September. First-time users receive 75% off their first ride, capped at IDR 10,000 (US$0.56), while subsequent rides receive 25% off, with no limit on the number of rides during the promotional period.

The launch also extends Green SM's "Green your move, refresh your city" campaign in Indonesia. The campaign is being aligned with initiatives led by Indonesia's ministry of environment/environmental control agency under the "Ecosystem & air protection" theme, promoting electric mobility as part of everyday transportation.

"The launch of our electric motorbike service in Jakarta is a strategic step in Green SM's international expansion. We aim to build a comprehensive fully electric mobility ecosystem encompassing both electric cars and electric motorbikes, enabling us to meet a broader range of everyday mobility needs," said Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, global CEO of Green SM.

"At the same time, Green SM seeks to be a long-term partner to Indonesia in its green transition and efforts to achieve its emissions reduction goals. By bringing high-quality, fully electric ride-hailing services closer to local communities, we hope to make it easier for more people to embrace greener mobility choices, working together with communities to build cleaner, greener, and more livable cities."

According to the company, life-cycle assessments indicate that electric cars and motorbikes can generate approximately 75% lower emissions than comparable petrol-powered vehicles.

Green SM said it has completed approximately 850 million rides globally, covering nearly six billion kilometres and helping reduce more than 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. It said this is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 36 million trees.

With the Jakarta launch, Green SM is positioning electric motorbikes alongside its electric taxi service as part of a broader mobility ecosystem, covering both longer journeys and shorter, more flexible trips across the city.
