DigiSalad shares its recipe to success in digital innovation and UX design

Having won seven local hero awards across multiple categories such as CRM & Loyalty Agency of the Year, Digital Agency of the Year and Brand & Design Consultancy of the Year, Hong Kong-based digital agency DigiSalad was crowned the Local Hero of the Year at MARKETING-INTERACTIVE's Agency of the Year Awards 2024.  

Over the past year, DigiSalad has achieved an annual turnover of over HK$50m, 1.6 times more compared to the same period in 2022, with its client growth recording a 68% increase when compared to 2022.  

One of the clients DigiSalad has partnered with which generated remarkable results was SmarTone, utilising the SmarTone Care Mobile App to enhance customer engagement and personalised service delivery. By leveraging customer data intelligently, DigiSalad was able to deliver relevant content, targeted offers, and personalised recommendations to SmarTone users, thereby driving sales, fostering customer loyalty, and enhancing the overall user experience. 

The agency also won the local hero award for the Best Client Acquisition Agency of the Year, of which it partnered with Bupa to develop its “Blua Health” mobile app. 

The data-driven acquisition strategy for the "Blua Health" app identified and targeted specific audience segments interested in health and wellness. By leveraging demographic, behavioural, and psychographic data, marketing initiatives were customised to reach ideal customers with personalised messaging and offers, maximising user acquisition success. 

The app also features leading technologies including  face scanning and AI personal trainers, as well as leveraging big data to make health management more personalised and intelligent. 

Another winning strategy that sets DigiSalad apart was its flat organisational structure and open-minded culture. 

Established in 2016, DigiSalad’s founder and creative director Tony Ng believes that staff empowerment is the key to success for a fast-paced innovative agency. Staff at DigiSalad have full autonomy at work and are empowered to make decisions. They also feel welcome to raise their voice and views to the team and company executives.  

In terms of staff development, DigiSalad employees are sponsored to attend workshops and certificated training courses (e.g. Professional Scrum Master). Furthermore, the company management hosts monthly sharing sessions to promote creativity, technology and design trends.  

During the sessions, staff will take turns hosting, encouraging idea exchange and fostering responsibility to maintain creativity. Top performers within the agency also receive performance bonuses. 

Ng said the win highlights the agency’s dedication towards digital innovation, “My team did a great job, these awards are not just about trophies, but also our commitment to digital innovation, it also reminds how I started this company.” 

He also said DigiSalad’s expertise surrounds three main pillars, including innovation, customised solutions and UX design. “From UX research, AB test, user interview, and analytics, our aim is to create a solution that exceeds clients' expectations.”
