Did Ahmad's Fried Chicken just appoint Malaysia's hottest AI CEO?

Malaysia's Ahmad's Fried Chicken has rebranded as Ahmad's HotChicken, unveiling a new identity alongside revamped recipes, menu offerings and what it describes as a rebuilt fried chicken experience.

The local halal fast food chain first teased the rebrand on Instagram on 2 July, before rolling out a series of posts over the following days hinting at a new direction for the brand. Among them was a tongue-in-cheek video showing someone asking ChatGPT how to rebrand Ahmad's Fried Chicken, ahead of the official unveiling.

On 6 July, the brand released a teaser video introducing the refreshed concept, accompanied by the message: "A new look, a new recipe, a new menu."

The same day, Ahmad's HotChicken also revealed several additions to its offering, including five levels of spiciness, a new signature sauce, crispier fried chicken and a signature mac & cheese topped with crispy beef bacon.

In a statement released on 7 July, the company said the rebrand goes beyond a new name and logo, positioning it as an evolution towards a "more modern and different spicy fried chicken experience" than what is currently available in the Malaysian market.

"We are not just changing the logo or name. We are rebuilding the entire Ahmad's experience. From the product, recipe, identity to the customer experience at the outlet. That is why we are here as Ahmad's HotChicken," the company said.

Central to the refresh is its new "5 levels of heat" system, allowing customers to customise their spice tolerance. The options range from "Scaredy cat" for those who prefer no spice, followed by "Lowkey", "Mid" and "Nocap hot", with "Reaper" serving as the hottest option using Carolina Reaper chillies.

The brand has also introduced a revamped fried chicken recipe, with each piece marinated in a proprietary blend before being double-coated for a crispier texture and fried fresh to order.

Completing the refresh is Ahmad's signature sauce, described as a creamy sauce balancing rich, tangy and sweet flavours, alongside its new signature mac & cheese.

Alongside the menu revamp, Ahmad's HotChicken said it has introduced an AI CEO to support operations, marketing, data analysis and strategic decision-making.

"AI technology allows us to move faster, make data-driven decisions and continuously improve the customer experience. It is part of Ahmad's vision to build the fast food brand of the future," the company said.

The rebrand was rolled out across all Ahmad's outlets in Malaysia from 7 July. Established in 2024, the halal fast food chain currently operates more than 40 outlets nationwide.

Ahmad's HotChicken's refresh comes as fried chicken brands increasingly look to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive category through menu innovation and refreshed brand positioning. Last month, KFC unveiled a global brand refresh centred on new menu platforms, modern restaurant formats and an updated visual identity as it sought to capitalise on growing demand for chicken.

The quick-service restaurant giant also expanded its boneless chicken offerings and introduced a global sauce "pantry" featuring more than 20 sauces, allowing individual markets to tailor flavours to local tastes. Speaking to A+M, Jack Foley, CMO of KFC South Asia, said Asia remains one of KFC's most important growth markets globally and will play an instrumental role in shaping the brand's next chapter through local consumer insights and market-specific adaptations.
