Coca-Cola turns Thai workplace distractions into surreal dinner-table moments

Coca-Cola has brought its global ‘The world will wait’ platform to Thailand with two locally developed films that use surreal humour to encourage people to put everyday distractions aside during shared meals.

Developed by WPP Open X and led by Ogilvy Thailand, the campaign explores the familiar experience of being physically present at the dinner table while mentally preoccupied with work and other demands.

The two films, ‘The Dentist’ and ‘The Cable Guy’, use exaggerated scenarios to show how the working day can follow people into their personal lives.

In ‘The Dentist’, a young man sits down for hot pot with his girlfriend, but remains mentally at the dental clinic. Sounds and gestures associated with his job begin appearing around the meal, blurring the line between work and dinner. Sharing a Coca-Cola helps bring his attention back to the person and meal in front of him.

Meanwhile, ‘The Cable Guy’ follows a utility worker who appears to be fixing overhead cables from a raised truck basket. The scene is eventually revealed to be taking place in his imagination as he sits with his daughter during a countryside meal. A shared Coca-Cola similarly helps bring him back to the moment.

The films are designed around a simple proposition: the world can wait while people make time for a meal together.

“Shared meals have an important place in everyday life in Thailand, but it is not always easy to leave the pressures and distractions of the day behind. Through ‘The world will wait’, Coca-Cola is encouraging people to pause, be present and rediscover the simple joy of enjoying food with the people who matter. The local creative brings that invitation to life with a sense of humour that we hope will resonate with audiences across Thailand,” said Kitisak Manoratana, senior marketing director at Coca-Cola Thailand.

“We wanted to express the global campaign idea through storytelling that feels genuinely local. Thai humour often finds something unexpected in familiar situations, so we used surreal scenarios to show how easily the working day can follow someone to the table. The films offer a light-hearted reminder to leave those distractions behind and return to the people and the meal in front of us,” said Pete Thasorn Boonyanate, chief creative officer at Ogilvy Thailand.

The campaign will run across billboards, social media and creator collaborations. Production was handled by Bangkok-based Factory01, with WPP Production also supporting the campaign.

Coca-Cola said the Thailand work is part of the broader ‘The world will wait’ platform, which focuses on reclaiming shared meal occasions from the distractions of modern life. The campaign positions Coca-Cola not simply as part of the meal, but as a cue to put the day on pause and be present with the people at the table.
