Social media site Reddit has unveiled a brand-new look with more accessible typography, a new logo and new conversation bubbles. This is the first major redesign to the platform since 2017 when the mobile app was first launched.

Snoo, Reddit’s lovable mascot, has gone 3D in the new rebrand, updated with various poses, expressions and reactions. Snoo’s new opposable thumbs also gives the platform a more open and approachable feel, allowing more conversations to happen on the platform.

The new look also includes a couple of new colors to represent the Reddit brand. These new colors serve as a representation of users on the platform, otherwise known as Redditors.

The colors will be presented in a fun conversational bubble visual element to highlight the different conversations hosted by the platform.

Its iconic orangey-red color still remains as the brand’s signature color and will be paired with the new colors to make a fresher and more distinct look.

Reddit has also introduced two new bespoke typefaces for the platform's rebrand. Known as Reddit Display and Reddit Sans, the changes will help push the company to become more integrated and intuitive worldwide.

Reddit Display will be suitable for a showcase of more expressive headlines, and incorporates the theme of conversation directly, with counter forms designed in the shape of conversation bubbles, it said.

Snoo is also included in its refreshed logo alongside a new wordmark that uses the new Reddit Display typeface.

Reddit Sans, gives a clean look and is easily understandable. It is also versatile, with a large x-height for readability and disambiguated letterforms for rapid identification and a more accessible user experience.

"Fast forward to today, a lot has changed in the world and with Reddit, so it’s the perfect time to evolve our brand to be more integrated, intuitive, and global," Reddit said in a statement.

It added that these updates aim to amplify what makes the platform unique. "Our new brand emphasises these conversations and evolves to be more consistent, identifiable, and accessible to audiences everywhere," it said.

“As we expand our global presence into new markets and engage with more audiences from advertisers and developers to redditors and moderators, we need to strengthen our brand foundation to allow for more creative and consistent expression, said Roxy Young, Reddit’s chief marketing and consumer experience officer.

“Our goal remains to focus on redditors' needs and make it simpler to bring community, belonging, and empowerment to everyone in the world,” she added.

The brand updates will appear on RedditInc.com and Reddit-run communities, with more visual updates to come in the next few months.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out for more information.

This year, many different brands have gone through a rebrand, bringing many more innovative new looks to the table.

Japanese stationery and lifestyle brand formerly known as Tokyu Hands is now known as HANDS with an updated logo, revamped services and new product offerings. The rebrand was in conjunction with a management change in Japan that was revealed on 31 March last year, when Hands became a subsidiary of CAINZ Corporation.

The rebranding will more accurately honor HANDS' founding purpose of "restoring the hands" and moving forward into the future while inhering the past, according to a statement by the brand.
